In the past, "tough" also meant
"heavy." Sure, the steel body and frame of yesteryears could stand up to
a lot of abuse, but that also meant that the engine was pulling around a
lot of extra weight - and it turns out it didn't need to
be.
When the
F-150 was completely redesigned in 2015, the body was replaced with
high-strength aluminum (the same grade 6000 stuff the military uses for
their equipment) and the frame is now produced with high-strength steel,
fully-boxed, and features larger cross-sections. The result is
counter-intuitive in the world of trucks, but nonetheless true: The New
F-150 was built tough this year, and weighs up to 700 pounds lighter
than previous
models.

onto the New Engines - All Six Of Them.
Ford engineers
work diligently to make the F-150 pickup better and better every year.
For 2019, there are now six engine choices. This year, Ford added a 3.0L
Power Stroke Turbo Diesel engine to the F-150 lineup that features
class-leading EPA-estimated highway fuel
economy.
Other
engines include the High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost DOHC in the F-150 Raptor,
the 2.7L EcoBoost V6, the 3.5L EcoBoost V6, the New 3.3L TI-VCT V6, and
the 5.0L TI-VCT V8. Auto Start-Stop Technology is also equipped on all
engines, and more engines now feature the segment-exclusive 10-speed
automatic.

Ford has
given the F-150 a bit of restyling to accentuate the truck's bold
features and make the F-Series look more cohesive. The most dramatic
change to the Ford F-150's styling is the aggressive new front grille,
inspired by the New Super Duty. The F-150 headlights and taillights have
also been re-worked, along with changes to the rear appliqué. The Ford F-150 also features an available Bang & Olufsen
stereo, an available WiFi hotspot, and is equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360
that offers trailer backup assist, hill descent control for large
loads, Terrain Management System, trail control, and
more.
