2018 Ford Focus Electric in Green Metallic Paint

Preview the Outrageous Green Metallic Paint on the Upcoming 2018 Ford Focus Electric

Borgman Ford always keeps an eye out for the latest and greatest advances made by Ford in "Green Technology." To help Grand Rapids and West Michigan drivers reduce their effect on the environment, Ford has made strides in fuel efficiency and found clever uses for recycled plastic. However, today's announcement wasn't just about the eco-friendly tech in the upcoming 2018 Ford Focus Electric, it was also about the new color: Outrageous Green Metallic. more Read More In this article published in the Official Ford Media Center, you can read more about the development of this wild new paint option, as well as how the team at Ford Motor chooses the paint colors for their vehicles. Here's an excerpt from the article: For Ford’s color and materials design team, inspiration is everywhere. Thinking about the visual and tactile elements that will help define future vehicles, Barb Whalen, Ford color and materials design manager, and her team tap into everyday experiences to predict future trends to deliver a vibrant and diverse pallet for customers. “Designers are encouraged to experience a feeling, bring it to the team, then collectively brainstorm ways to bring it to life through a paint color or material for Ford vehicles,” says Whalen. “Outrageous Green Metallic is a unique shade, symbolizing modern renewal and a reconnection with nature, then finished with a special tinted clear coat to give the color depth and vibrancy.” Challenged to think about the “why,” the Ford color and materials team works to answer why a particular color is important, why now, and why this color as opposed to another. Many colors seen today were inspired from beautiful places in nature, with trends often predicted two to three years into the future. These trends can be influenced by everything from changing lifestyles, psychological and societal emotions, to consumer hobbies and passionate interests. Unusual sports gear, ropes, anodized finishes, plastics gear and accent fabrics provide inspiration for Ford vehicle exteriors and interiors. You can read the full article by visiting Media.Ford.com In more recent years, Ford has been making an enormous push to "Go Green," whether that means making their vehicles more efficient, finding clever new uses for recycled materials, or other ways to lessen their impact on the environment. Ford 3D Print

Ford Is Experimenting With 3D Printing In Hopes Of Making Cars Lighter & More Personalized

Over here at Borgman, we are continually amazed by some of the things being cooked-up and tested by Ford's research & development teams, and what they could mean for Ford customers in Grand Rapids, MI in the present and future. This latest feature is about them exploring the use of 3D printing, what makes it better than traditional prototyping, and further down the road, if car buyers could one day personalize certain pieces of their Ford Vehicles. This article from the Official Ford Media Center explains more about the process and advantages of 3D printing car parts. more Read More Here are some excerpts from the article: Ford Motor Company is exploring how large-scale one-piece auto parts, like spoilers, could be printed for prototyping and future production vehicles, as the first automaker to pilot the Stratasys Infinite Build 3D printer. Capable of printing automotive parts of practically any shape or length, the Stratasys Infinite Build system could be a breakthrough for vehicle manufacturing – providing a more efficient, affordable way to create tooling, prototype parts and components for low-volume vehicles such as Ford Performance products, as well as personalized car parts. The new 3D printer system is housed at Ford Research and Innovation Center in Dearborn. “With Infinite Build technology, we can print large tools, fixtures and components, making us more nimble in design iterations,” said Ellen Lee, Ford technical leader, additive manufacturing research. “We’re excited to have early access to Stratasys’ new technology to help steer development of large-scale printing for automotive applications and requirements.” 3D printing is not yet fast enough for high-volume manufacturing, but it is more cost efficient for low-volume production. Additionally, minus the constraints of mass-production processes, 3D-printed parts can be designed to function more efficiently. The series of advertisements, the first of which debuted this past weekend, provides a glimpse into how Mazda vehicles are designed—showcasing the craftsmanship, design and obsession with detail that Mazda Takumi Masters put into every car. The first advertising spot in the design series, called “Oneness,” features Masanori Minamisawa, the actual craftsman who led the exterior design team for the all-new MX-5 Miata RF. In the spot, Minamisawa describes his belief that the link between harmony within music, and the perfect harmony you feel when driving a vehicle that was designed just for you, can lead to a feeling of exhilaration, and ultimately, joy, when driving. “Mazda is fortunate to have such passionate designers that consistently rise to the challenge of bringing the vision of our brand to life,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing at Mazda North American Operations. “This new series of advertising spots allow us to highlight the real-life people that put their heart and soul into designing vehicles for the wants and needs of our customers.” You can read the full article by visiting InsideMazda.MazdaUSA.com.
