C-V2X Technology

Ford Vehicles Prepping to Play Smart on the Road with C-V2X

It’s every motor vehicle innovator’s upcoming obsession: C-V2X, or cellular vehicle to everything technology. Imagine driving in a Ford, knowing that your vehicle has the ability to communicate with other connected users on the road about traffic updates, pedestrians and bikers, and road statuses—in the long run, you (and your vehicle!) are creating a safer, more efficient environment on the road. Borgman Ford is proud to distribute vehicles from Ford, whose mission is to deliver great products and make the world a better place! more Read More The Two Ideal Connections on the Road There are two advancements Intelligent Transportation Society of America is working on: the first goal is to weave C-V2X innovations with other wireless technologies to allow communication between vehicles and others on the road including pedestrians and cyclists; the second is to implement a blockchain-based system that assists vehicles at intersections to negotiate efficient traffic flow. These two approaches would allow everyone on the road to have foresight about what’s ahead and experience less traffic congestion. The first goal: to allow communication between all road users. Take the following example to understand how the technology will work. It’s not uncommon for drivers in busy, urban areas to overlook or miss pedestrians, scooter riders, cyclists both on the road and as they’re crossing the street. With C-V2X technology, a rider with a Bluetooth-enabled phone can both send and receive information about their location to ensure it’s safe to cross. Multiple wireless communication tools include Bluetooth, C-V2X equipped vehicles, and other short-range communication channels including GPS mounts, traffic signals, and cell phones. The second goal: to reduce congestion and accidents at intersections. In this example, we have four C-V2X equipped vehicles approaching a four way stop—if it’s dark, or in the case of future autonomous vehicles, it may get tricky gesturing to other cars or determining who has the right away. With C-V2X, each vehicle would be notified with a STOP or GO signal inside their vehicle based on who approached the intersection first. This reading and communication occurs effortlessly while working with other C-V2X infrastructure in the city. Stay Tuned! To perform at full potential, the C-V2X technology will have to be implemented within the grand transportation ecosystem in each city. With everyone on board, including government agencies and other automakers, all drivers, riders, walkers, and city/state/federal vehicles and services are more apt to utilize the technology. This could raise the bar for connectivity on the road—a connectivity that’s committed to safety, efficiency, and stability. Borgman Ford fully supports any technology that can improve safety and performance standards, and can’t wait to hear more from Ford! In the mean time, contact us with any inquiries or to set up an appointment to discuss the best addition to your family. Plastic Bottles

Is your Vehicle Made of Recycled Bottles? If It’s a Ford, Yes!

Recycling has become part of the American culture, but did you know that recycling has also become part of your Ford vehicle? Ford Motor Company released numbers earlier this month that revealed that they use about 250 plastic bottles per vehicle—totaling around 1.2 billion recycled plastic bottles per year—as their way to step toward sustainable products that don’t sacrifice performance. Chances are, the bottles will be found in your underbody shield to encourage aerodynamic driving and reduced cabin noise. Borgman Ford is proud to distribute vehicles from a brand that is a leader in environmentally friendly improvements! more Read More From Bottle to Underbody Ford design engineer Thomas Sweder explains that not only do water bottles contribute to a more sustainably made vehicle, but it also increases performance by reducing the weight of the vehicle. “The underbody shield is a large part, and for a part that big, if we use solid plastic, it would likely weigh three times as much,” he said. “We look for the most durable and highest performing materials to work with to make our parts, and in this case, we are also creating many environmental benefits.” Wondering how it works? From your recycling bin at home to the commercial recycling facility, then shredded into small pieces that is packaged as bulk and sold to suppliers. Those suppliers turn it into a fiber through high temperatures and extrusion. The complicated part combines those fibers with other types of fibers, applies a textile process that creates a sheet of material—this sheet is then molded into the automotive parts that Ford uses. The environmental impact is exciting for Ford—by using a material that undergoes this recycling process, Ford is helping to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans or landfills. If the material meets desired specifications for rusticity, performance, and durability, why wouldn’t every company use it? “Ford is among the leaders when it comes to using recycled materials such as this, and we do it because it makes sense technically and economically as much as it does for the environment,” Sweder said. Watch the video below from Ford for the inside story! https://players.brightcove.net/5793224005001/ryVB9iveX_default/index.html?videoId=6043313709001 Check with us at Borgman Ford to request a tour of your future recycled underbody shield. We can point to the exact part that is recycled! The F-600: Ford’s Missing Link to their Work Truck Lineup is Revealed

Earlier this year, Ford Motor Company introduced the F-600 at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis. The new chassis cab truck has gained a lot of attention for the role it plays in Ford’s already robust lineup of work vehicles—combining big truck capabilities of the F-650 and compact performance of the F-550, the F-600 is the maneuverable, intermediate, class 6 truck that answers the demand from customers. Borgman Ford and Borgman Commercial are thrilled to add the F-600 to your fleet in 2020. more Read More The Truck Joining the lineup as the intermediate go-to, the F-600 is a full Class 6, up to 22,000-pound, chasse cab truck that comes with Ford’s 10-speed TorqueShift automatic transmission with live drive power takeoff option. Customers have the option of a 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine or the new 7.3-liter gasoline V-8, will experience Ford’s upgraded brakes and chassis components, and 19.5-inch wheels to achieve the maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). According to Mike Pruitt, the truck’s chief program engineer, the F-600 is the “right size, with the right power, and the right technology to tackle America’s toughest jobs.” To complement the F-600’s big-truck features, it has the assist technology of Ford’s smaller Super Duty lineup for maximum approachability. Available driver-assist technology includes automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning automatic high beam headlights; the additional standard elements of Ford Co-Pilot360 haven’t gone anywhere and include adaptive cruise control, Blind Spot information system, side sensing, forward collision warning, and front and rear split-view cameras. With the comfort of these assist technologies, adding new drivers to your fleet is simpler and safer — lowering training and operating costs in comparison to big truck handling. F-600's 6.7L and 7.3L Engines Get Ready! The greatest addition yet—the F-600—is coming soon. Check with us at Borgman Ford in early 2020 to get details on market availability and early ordering. Road Trip Tips: To-Do Before Your Summer Michigan Adventures

The weather is warming and you’re getting antsy to head on your first Michigan adventure of the season: kayaking, hiking, vineyard touring, or camping. These activities (and more!) are more enjoyable when everything functions as expected, including your vehicle. Before you head out, ensure your vehicle is up to speed by having Borgman Ford check your necessities in a quick tune-up service appointment! Below are things you should check to ensure your adventure rides smooth in every way possible. more Read More Check your oil and coolant. If you’re tacking on miles, ensure your oil change is up to date to preserve engine performance, and checking your coolant is essential to avoid overheating in the balmy Michigan summers. Ensuring everything is leak-free under the hood ensures a no-worry trip. Lights and Wipers Sometimes overlooked, these components are essential for navigating at night, especially in the event of an unexpected rainstorm. Check every light, including brake and blinkers, to reduce collision risk. Grab spares if it’s been a while and store in the glove box to avoid nighttime safety risks! Brakes and Tires (and have a spare wheel!) Adventure driving is synonymous with encountering windy roads and big hills, so make sure your brakes and pads are in tip-top shape and that your tires have been recently aligned for optimal wear and performance. Borgman can check the details for any notable damage such as surface and tread wear, inflections, and bubbles. It’s a smart idea to invest in a spare wheel for an accidental flat on the road, too.  If you’re not comfortable changing your own tire, keep Ford’s Roadside Assistance contact information on hand for 24/7 assistance. Steering When driving, listen for abnormal engine sounds, vibrations and suspensions. Borgman offers thorough steering checks to ensure your vehicle isn’t pulling you in any direction for safe navigation during long drives. Outfit Your Ford If you’re interested in taking your vehicle for more than just an average road trip, consider the outfitting options available from various companies made either in partnership with Ford or endorsed by Ford. Tried-and-true brands like Yakima, Thule, and Malone make roof and bike racks for almost all car models! If you have a Ford Ranger, you’re in luck; this year, Yakima released a line of accessories constructed specifically for optimizing the Ford Ranger for adventure, and include kayak racks, bike racks, truck-bed storage solutions, and truck-bed tents. If you need help installing any of these items, don’t hesitate to ask your service professional at Borgman Ford! Pack your bags, organize your car, and check off each of the safety to-dos above, and you’re ready to ride. Your Borgman Ford service specialists are eager to assist in summer-adventure prep. Making the Switch: Why Drive a SUV or CUV?

The SUV and CUV trend is at an all-time high, and automakers are taking note. With several manufacturers soon ceasing the production of sedans and compact vehicles (Ford included), your interest is piquing: why an SUV or CUV? At Borgman Ford, we’re excited to help you find the most versatile car for your lifestyle, and Ford’s new 2019 lineup of vehicles will sate both your desire for thrilling performance and everyday usability. If you’re a compact car driver considering the switch to a practical powerhouse, look no further than Borgman Ford Mazda. more Read More The automotive industry is predicting a permanent trend toward trucks, SUVs, and CUVs. Lifestyle and Practicality There’s a reason SUVs and CUVs were deemed “an instrument of athleisure” by Bloomberg. With nearly half of the U.S. population being involved in consistent outdoor endeavors, families and independent Millennial and Gen Xers are making health their lifestyle, not just a hobby, which means they need their equipment for adventure on hand. SUVs and CUVs have the ground clearance for off-road riding and can carry (or tow) your equipment on the weekends—from paddle boards to mountain bikes—and still offer the smooth, on-road ride you desire from a compact. There are no limitations with a SUV or CUV; these capable vehicles are built to travel with ease in the city, ride the rugged roads in the mountains, and offer competitive commuter MPG and comfort. Performance and Fuel Economy …is no longer just for sports cars and compact machines. Today’s SUVs and CUVs offer up to the same horsepower as your favorite two-door style stunner, and fall within the desired MPG range for eco-conscious buyers. Within Ford’s lineup, drivers have the option of vehicles that feature Auto Start-Stop Technology for fuel preservation, turbocharged EcoBoost engines with horsepower options, and EcoBoost Class II Trailer Tow Package for a tow rating up to 3,500 lbs. The three-engine options allow you to choose your desired balance between performance and efficiency. Safety and Comfort There’s no doubt that being on the road amid a sea of vehicles can be stressful. SUVs and CUVs ease the concern for safety and provide a luxuriously comfortable interior and design to support short commutes and long adventures. Sit higher to see better, feel safe in a structured mid-size design, and do it in style. On the road and in crashes, SUVs are proven to provide a higher survival rate. Ford implements features such as AdvanceTrac Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for assisted control and traction, Blind Spot Information System and cross-traffic alert, and forward collision brake support to cover your safety bases at all times. In addition, Ford’s SUV and CUV lineup tests well on both front and side crash ratings, and builds panel roofs to protect in the event of a roll over. SUVs and CUVs naturally weigh more than compact or sedan vehicles, automatically placing you on a safer scale while navigating the road. Whether you’re looking for a sleek, low profile performance CUV (take a look at the Ford EcoSport) or a performance, do-it-all SUV (hello, Ford Edge ST!), Borgman can fit you with the right vehicle for your lifestyle. Stop by anytime to view our lineup of New 2019 Ford Vehicles and take advantage of our Day Trader Program to try your SUV or CUV of interest on an extended test drive!

Ford Announces Partnership With Electric Vehicle Company Rivian and Invests $500 Million

Borgman Ford in Grand Rapids applauds Ford for their continued efforts in electric vehicle research. Over the last 5 years or so, electric vehicles have been gaining some traction as barriers like cost and charging time start to come down.
